Quarter Life CRISIS (in capital letters)

Just found this really interesting and would like to share with you who feel as lost as me !
"Being Twenty-something - they call it the 'Quarter-life Crisis.

You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.

You look at your job ... and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realising that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you.

Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realise that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't.

One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and cling on to the past, but soon realise that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person.

You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future and making a life for yourself... and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender!"
~
This is the exact description of me right now... feel so vague...
I need gel clothes, shoes MONEY to boost up my confidence!

Not a paid review

I have bought many books in my life, especially ones with cute pink covers and with a title of shopaholic or fashion but all has let me down, not that they are bad, I was never a fan of books and still not a fan for books.

I was trying to find a book on Amazon one day, out of the blue I actually found something else while searching (this is what you call fate!). “Marley and Me” was said to be the best selling book on Amazon and just out of curiosity I was reading about it. To cut the story short I found it super interesting and decide to buy it. As people in HK know buying an English book here is not easy, so I had to order it in. Guess what? The book costs a WHOPPING 191 bucks (and with an ugly cover?!?!I could buy half a dress in Zara!) Anyhow I still bought it!

This book was so easy to read yet so very descriptive I felt every single bit of it. The funny parts was so funny that I was actually laughing out loud (I can assure you reading books was only a device to put me to sleep). The sad parts were so heartfelt I was crying out loud (meaning choking crying)

This book has taken me back to the days when I still had my dog, now after reading this; I have promised myself without 100% commitment I will not own a pet. Reading the author’s commitment, generosity and respect to its dog, I felt guilty that I never treated my dog like the author did or like I should have.

For all dog lovers out there, I truly recommend this book. This is as serious as I can be and I mean it.

Please visit http://www.marleyandme.com/

You can see the writing style of the author John Grogan by reading his blog (beware this blog is as addictive as The Satorialist blog). He is the type of guy where he says jokes but doesn’t laugh himself, but he will make people around him laugh to tears. (I am so attracted to these type of guys)

Tip of the day: A box of Kleenex 3-ply is essential when reading “Marley and Me”

the (g)rain in spain

A Spanish fare on a rainy and cold Sunday.
Paella Sunday (doesn’t these two words sound heavenly?) at nomad deli

Menu:

hot chorizo with an eggplant sauce

paella cooked in a PROPER 1 m wide paella pan with the stand and burner (u can buy this in the deli)

ensalada pollo – chicken salad, not just any old chicken salad, I was told by the madre (mother) this was made with a mint + lemon + olive oil dressing, yum! Amazing how good olive oil and herbs can really make a dish

the highlight was the dessert: churros con chocolate! This was not included in the AUD$15 three course meal. This costs an extra $4.5 but SO worth it.

Churros is like a Spanish style donut. It basically fried dough. But it takes on an interesting shape, because it is extruded from a prism shaped mould. Reminds me of the play dough extruding machine I had as a child.

The Spanish way to eat this is to dust it with cinnamon sugar (another two of my favourite words) with a cup of Spanish hot chocolate. You have to dunk the churros into the lovely rich hot chocolate. It’s very special indeed! For this alone, I will drive all the way to Killarney heights (where?). This dessert is a very common brekkie and a snack during the day or at night in Spain (how lucky are the Espanola!) you see, the hot chocolate is not the sickeningly sweetness you get from a Cadbury drinking coco. The magic is the cornstarch on the hot choc, it makes it very creamy but never too rich.

I decided against buying the 350g worth of luscious drinking chocolate (a whopper of a can) because I can't make churros at home anyways, some food always taste better when someone's made it! I did buy some saffron from Spain (AUD$11 for one gram), the smell of it is simply intoxicating. Saffron is a very sort after spice and it is the most expensive spice in the word (the second most expensive is vanilla pods). It is used in most Arab, Indian, Mediterranean, Spanish dishes and sometimes French dishes. It won’t live very long in my spice cupboard. I am always up for a pilaf, bouillabaisse or a paella (but wait til I get a proper Spanish paella dish).

An interesting fact: you have to bring your table and chairs and camp outsie the deli. A rug is sufficient to sit on the grass on a sunny day. There is a playground for children, too.

notes on what to wear:
a long woolie cardie
(cashmere, if you must! jac + jac have a delicious grey number at david jones, it was love at first touch. retailed at AUD $800, oh my!) OR steal your boyfriend's. jeans west have a nice range in the boy's section.

WITH: jeans (skinny or boyfriend depending if you will stuff yourself silly with churros)

AND: maybe a vintage looking tee or white tank from american apparel with long necklace.

FINISH OFF: with a pair of ballet flats custom made to your liking from salvios, randwick.

perfect for a day dining al fresco.

The deli also have a good range of Spanish product on their website, which you can mail order. I have already bookmark this!

Would you like it to be served with fries? YES PLEASE!

Yesterday I went to McDonalds ordered a filet’o’fish meal. The burger?.. Its OK… The coke?… its OK… The fries? Its fantastic!!! French fries never let me down. So where did French fries actually come from? Actually from few hundred years ago, potatoes was actually ONLY prisoner’s food (how lucky are the prisoners). Later the French came up with slicing the potatoes in long slender pieces and fried them. This was then imported to the States and called it French fried Potatoes and eventually turned into French fries.

Where is the world’s best French fries? McDonalds? I don’t know… I find all French fries to be very much similar. But how about sweet potato fries? I reckon it’s so much better!! And for those who have tried sweet potato wedges, it’s not even comparable!
To try these sweet potato fries - Go to Main Street Deli at Langham Hotel in Hong Kong which are also Famous for their juicy burgers. Recommended – blue ribbon burger served with sweet potato fries and must order their Dr Brown’s cream soda (described as the smoothest cream soda made on the face of the earth! And I agree!)

Tip for Daniel's fans: For those who know Daniel Wu and love him like I do, hes a big fan of Main St Deli! I guess I will be going there all the time now!!! When I do see him, I will try to remain calm and eat my burger with sweet potato chips like a lady.

Memories

Do you remember when you were 2 and you will laugh when your mummy comes up to you and say "boooooooohooooooodaaadidaaadiiidaaa" ?
Do you remember when you were 5 and you will put coins(containing trillions of bacteria) in your mouth and gargle it like a lolly pop?
Do you remember when you were 10 and adults never say you're adorable anymore because you lost your 2 front tooth
Do you remember when you were 13 and wanted to look cool but never did?
Do you remember when you were 15 and you had a crush on a guy whom you didnt even know?
Do you remember when you had your first smoke or first taste of alcohol?
Do you remember when you started liking the colour pink?
Do you remember the first taste of chocolate and falling in love with it?
Do you remember the first pair of heels you bought?
Do you remember.......

I dont remember anything so Im starting this to help me recover my memories.
This is dedicated to the Satorialist who inspired us to start this and dedicated to our future grandchildren so they know what their grandmother did when she was young and proud.

Enjoy!
